How Verosint Detects Fraud

Verosint uses open-source intelligence (OSINT) signals that combat account fraud by using publicly available information to identify fraudulent activities and perpetrators. Verosint identifies patterns and behaviors of account activities that look like fraud through:

  • Data Collection: Enables the collection of vast amounts of publicly available data from various online sources, including social media platforms, forums, news articles, public databases, and websites. This data can include information about individuals, organizations, transactions, and other relevant details based on the data and event information that you provide.
  • Identity Verification: Verifies the identities of individuals associated with accounts by cross-referencing information found online with the details provided during the account registration process. Discrepancies or inconsistencies may indicate potential fraudulent activity. Verosint also integrates with ID Dataweb for additional identity verification.
  • Pattern Recognition: Analyzes patterns and trends in online behavior, identifying suspicious activities such as unusual login locations, frequent changes in account details, or atypical transaction patterns. See SignalPrint Overview for details about how Verosint displays potential fraud patterns.
  • Social Media Presence: Monitors digital footprints on social media platforms, where fraudsters may inadvertently reveal information about their activities or connections.
  • Risk Assessment: Assesses the risk associated with specific accounts or transactions by providing information about the individuals or entities' reputation, history, and credibility. This information can inform decisions about approving transactions or taking preventive measures. See Understanding Fraud Scores and Labels for details about how Verosint labels risk.
  • Collaboration and Information Sharing: Facilitates collaboration and information sharing among organizations, enabling them to pool resources, share intelligence, and coordinate efforts to combat account fraud more effectively.
